À propos de l'événement

CONTENT

In this floral workshop, you will develop your own visual lexicon to create your personal vision of Australian native flowers.

In the morning, you will be introduced to the subtle art of layering, playing with light and darkness as well as texture, to create stunning backgrounds, on which you will later paint the flowers of your choice.

In the afternoon, you will experiment with white ink detailing, using brushes and pen, to add depth and contrast to your paintings. A casual display will be organised by the end of the workshop, for everyone to enjoy each others’ work.

This workshop also includes tips for composition, archival arts, and how to create in series while remaining creative and avoiding repetitiveness.

By the end of the 6 hours workshop you will have produced:

- A4 paintings on watercolour paper with your own floral art

- A3 paintings (or more if you are prolific!)

PARTICIPANTS MUST PREPARE

- A4 and A3 watercolour paper sheets, bring a few so you have enough to play with. Do NOT detatch paper from pads, do NOT pre-cut large sheets of paper!

Born in France, Sofie Dieu’s first encounter with art was through church. With a penchant for ritual and spirituality, the artist is best known for her fragile, sombre, and sometimes violent ink paintings and textile works.

Poetic and humanist, her practice draws on her journeys to China and Australia. She explores how identity and memory fluctuate according to their immediate environment. Landscapes, people, secrecy, healing, and the dichotomy between light and darkness are some of her recurring themes.

Multi-art prizes and award finalist, her work was included in the Sydney North Art Prize, Waterhouse Natural Science prize and the Contemporary Art Award amongst others. In 2016, she worked on the Camperdown Cemetery installation for Sydney Biennale. In 2017, her work will be shown during Vivid and Mental Health Month in Sydney.
