Film
Since 2019, Sofie Dieu creates short films that act as rituals to reestablish our lost connection to nature and our ancestral knowledge. These films often result from collaborations, art residencies or are commissioned by local councils.
Water Memory was shot on the shore of East Gippsland, Australia. Inspired by Dr Emoto Masaru, it speaks of how first generation Australian women's memory is linked to the memory of water itself. This film was commissioned for the 2021 Clayton Festival by the City of Monash.
In this performance video I Am Water, visual artist Sofie Dieu performs a water ritual in the Victorian Alps of Australia. I Am Water was created as part of a larger body of work Longing for Home in 2020 and was supported by Falls Creek Arts and Culture, Multicultural Women Victoria, the City of Kingston and the City of Monash. This film is finalist of the 2024 6th edition of the Estivales de Sceaux festival and is on view from June-Sept 2024 at Monash Civic Gallery.
