Since 2019, Sofie Dieu creates short films that act as rituals to reestablish our lost connection to nature and our ancestral knowledge. These films often result from collaborations, art residencies or are commissioned by local councils.
We Are The Ocean celebrates multicultural women's gift of life. Rivers run through them and together they form the ocean. This video project is commissioned by the City of Hobsons Bay for the Laneway Gallery, Woods Street Arts Space and as part of International Women Day 2022. Supported by Multicultural Women Victoria.
Water Memory was shot on the shore of East Gippsland, Australia. Inspired by Dr Emoto Masaru, it speaks of how first generation Australian women's memory is linked to the memory of water itself. This film was created for Clayton Festival online 2021 and was supported by the City of Monash.
In this performance video I Am Water, visual artist Sofie Dieu performs a water ritual in the Victorian Alps of Australia. I Am Water was created as part of a larger body of work Longing for Home in 2020 and was supported by Falls Creek Arts and Culture, Multicultural Women Victoria, the City of Kingston and the City of Monash.
