Magick Plants

Magick Plants is an exhibition that showcases 3 weeks worth of research on native plants in Albany, Western Australia, as part of a residency supported by the Vancouver Arts Centre.

This residency and exhibition coincides with Inktober, a worldwide ink painting challenge where artists create one ink work a day for the duration of October. This is the third year Sofie Dieu takes part in this challenge and this year her focus was on native plants that are endemic to the bay area. To further her understanding of the place she was creating from, she also met with Larry and Venice from Kurrah Mia.

The exhibition was created in reaction to an extremely racist poem found during the residency. It acknowledges the artist's appreciation of the Noongar Country, its native plants and culture.

This video includes an audio with subtitle transcript of a note the artist left for visitors.
